Mammography

Description

  • Mammography is a type of breast imaging technique that uses low-dose X-ray to examine breast tissue. Mammography is used to detect the presence of breast cancer. Screening mammography refers to imaging study conducted before a patient or physician can feel a suspicious breast tissue abnormality.

  • Annual screening with mammograms is recommended for women over 40 years old. If you are between 50 and 69 years old, you do not need a physician referral.

How to Prepare

Please do not use deodorant, antiperspirant, lotion/body power the day of the exam as this may interfere with breast imaging. If you are experiencing premenstrual tenderness please reschedule your screening mammography appointment after it has resolved. Avoid caffeine intake beginning 2 days prior to your exam date. Please wear a two-piece outfit. This will make undressing easier for your examination
